Ozil Completes Phase 1

The completion of Mesut ozil’s transfer on deadline day was something of a surprise to most. There have been many fans suggesting he is what the club does NOT need I would have to differ. Described by Mourinho as ” The best No.10 in world football” to get him for a mere £42.4 million is a huge statement of intent for the coming season. This is sure to be a catalyst for the arrival of other big names in future transfer windows. To think this was only possible due to Arsenal’s closest rivals Tottenham doing the club a big favour by selling Bale to Real Madrid this opened up the possibility.

Some people within the English media have amazingly put this down as a panic buy, if they were to do a little bit of research they would find out that this deal had been the offing four days before when a deal was agreed it was just a mere case of dotting the i’s and crossing the T’s.

To all the fans that have still criticised the board and Wenger for only buying Ozil and Emiliano Viviano. Obviously the squad is still a little thin but you can expect The club to go again in Janaury with rumours of a raid on the Bundesliga you can definitely expect a raft of big names to be linked and now as I have said previously we have a marquee name. As a club there is a massive draw to coming to the Emirates, great facilities, a massive fan base, a not forgetting the money is now there for us to compete on a larger scale. Most importantly the club now has a World Class talent that will be able to lure other world class players to the club.

One club that this situation reminds me of is Manchester City, they needed a big name to start drawing other big names to the club once they found that it was just a case of progression that name was Robinho. I am not comparing Ozil to Robinho in anyway there are massive differences between the two players.

So what will mesut Ozil bring to The Emirates? He is quite similar to Santi Cazorla in many ways but more of an upgrade. He has a cultured left foot, he comes to the Premier league after achieving more assists than any other player in European and World Football last year. If you like your stats it has been shown that his Midfield play is more efficient than both Iniesta and Xavi. Yes he is similar to what the club already have on their books but like I said previously he is better than the club already had.

The signing of Ozil could well be Wenger’s Bergkamp as any real Arsenal fan knows, Wenger inherited Bergkamp from his predecessor Bruce Rioch. He is exactly the same type of player, he is busy, creative and links the play as good as anyone in world football. Yes £42.4 million is a lot of money but if you compare that to what Madrid are getting for double that from Gareth Bale I would have to say Arsenal have done the better business.

In Summary I would like to touch upon the comments of a one Glenn Hoddle who this week suggested that the likes of jack Wilshere would suffer due to the signing of Ozil. (obviously this has nothing to do with his allegiance to Tottenham, who by the way replaced a welshman with seven… yes seven foreign footballers), if anything the likes of Wilshere and Ramsey will thrive, they can only get better playing with such an accomplished Midfielder. Also he along with other pundits have been constantly touching upon how weak the squad is.

One thing is for sure these are definitely exciting times ahead at the Emirates.
