Top 5 Transfer Rumours this morning

This morning as I have a few minutes I decided to scour some Football news websites. It appears the rumour mill has started already at Arsenal. With no less than five names catching my eye these names are listed below.

1. Asmir Begovic

Stoke goalkeeper Asmir Begovic is beaten by Swansea player Jonathan de Guzman free kick for the second Swansea goal during the Barclays Premier League match between Swansea City and Stoke City at Liberty Stadium on January 19, 2013 in Swansea, Wales

Stoke’s 25 years old Bosnian Shot stopper is expected to be a hot property this summer. With the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Man Utd expected to be along the favourites to secure his signature for a fee of around £15 million.

2. Aleksandar Dragovic

Zenit St. Petersburg's Brazilian forward Hulk (R) controls the ball next to FC Basel's Serbian defender Aleksandar Dragovic during the first leg of the UEFA Europa League round of 16 football match between FC Basel and Zenit St. Petersburg on March 7, 2013 in Basel

This is a surprising but yet interesting link, the 22 years old Austrian born centre back currently plays his football for FC Basel. he is good on the ball and very good in the air. He would no doubt improve Arsenal defensively.

3. Iker Casillas

Real Madrid's goalkeeper and captain Iker Casillas takes part in the warm up before the start of the UEFA Champions League quarter-final second leg football match Galatasaray vs Real Madrid on April 9, 2013 at Ali Sami Yen stadium in Istanbul

I mentioned that I would welcome this move in my previous article. echos coming out of Spain all point to Casillas wanting a move and he is more than open to a move to the Premier league. The Metro has also reported Liverpool are also pondering a move for him. I’m sure the pull of Champions League football would determine his future for next season.

4. Mario Gotze

Mario Gotze of Borussia Dortmund shoots at goal during the UEFA Champions League quarter-final second leg match between Borussia Dortmund and Malaga at Signal Iduna Park on April 9, 2013 in Dortmund, Germany

I had to chuckle to myself when I read this story this morning. Whether there are any legs in this story or not, he may well be looking for a change. Rumours suggest Dortmund are open to his sale for the right price but with a £34 million release clause on him, it almost seems a non-starter especially for Arsenal. can only see clubs like Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Chelsea, Man City, etc. being able to Bankroll such a fee.

5. Simon Mignolet

Raheem Sterling of Liverpool scores the opening goal past Simon Mignolet of Sunderland during the Barclays Premier League match between Liverpool and Sunderland at Anfield on January 2, 2013 in Liverpool, England

Mignolet is the final name on this list and a strange one at that. I wouldnt support this move I think Arsenal need to be looking at someone a lot more consistent. I have seen Mignolet a few times this season and He is either unbeatable or abysmal. I feel that Arsenal would be better suited approaching the likes of Casillas or Begovic

In summary it is no secret that Arsene Wenger is keen to shore up our back four after another season of inconsistency and what could even be described as Sunday League defending at times. A new Number one is definitely needed and if reports are to be believed it appears that is a very high priority along with the back four. I never know whether to believe over half of what I read regarding transfer rumours at the Emirates. But when is for certain Monsieur Wenger is definitely under pressure to spend and spend big and make almost wholesale changes. His contract will be up after next season and I’m sure he would not want this to be his legacy.
